Big data is a term used to refer to very large data sets, for example those generated as part of web-scale data gathering such as social media, or massive scientific experiments such as at CERN. I cruciall aspect of big data is that it is typially to large to be processed in a single compyter leading to the need for {[distributed processing}} such as MapReduce.
